Weather can be unpredictable especially while traveling and that’s why it’s so important to invest in a jacket that can protect you during all types of weather conditions. A good jacket should be able to protect from the sun and different weather conditions like cold and rain so I made a list of some of the best lightweight jackets for 2020.
Best Overall: The North Face Thermoball Jacket is perfect for cold and warmer climate. It weighs just under 13 ounces and has 13 grams of Thermoball insulation. This jacket keeps you warm and both dry and wet conditions which gives you that peace of mind while in any weather condition.
Best for Extreme Cold: Arc’teryx Cerium LT Hooded Jacket is an amazing lightweight down jacket that can handle super-cold weather and is constructed of a waterproof, windproof shell. With the jacket’s nylon shell all with having DWR fabric to keep the moisture out, most of the 9.8-ounce body is filled with 850 premium fill-power down and synthetic insulation in all the right areas so expect this one to last.
Best for Running: Patagonia Houdini Jacket is a waterproof, lightweight running jacket that even the hood was constructed to help best serve you in unpredictable climates. This jacket has a body tight fit to it like most performance jackets and even has a zippered chest pocket.
Best for Backpacking: Arc’teryx Zeta SL Jacket can appeal to most with it being available in 10 different colors, but one downfall is this one is a bit on the pricier side with it being $299. With that high price, you do get what is considered the best hiking and backpacking jacket out there. Arc’teryx Zeta SL Jacket is windproof, waterproof, and breathable and they seemed to have gotten us covered in any situation with adding functions like having a waterproof zipper that keeps rain from sneaking in and adjustable cuffs that keep heat from escaping.
Best for Women: Patagonia Storm Racer Jacket is a super light jacket that weighs in at 5.5 ounces and is 100 percent constructed of nylon ripstop H2No shell that’s completely waterproof and windproof. You may have to pack on some more layers to stay warmer, but other than it possibly not keeping you warmer than some it’s great.
Best for Men: Columbia Watertight II Jacket and is on par with their known ability to combine quality construction and giving their products an approachable price tag. This is made for then men who needed something for maybe walking the dog or getting stuck in a light rain situation. The Columbia Watertight II Jacket waterproof, breathable and construction with fully sealed seams, plus an adjustable storm hood
